KNIGHTS

“No one had taught us how to be free. We had only ever been taught how to die for freedom.”  Second Hand Time, Svetlana Alexievich

When the systems around us crumble; where do we turn, what do we believe in, and what are we training for now?

KNIGHTS is a movement-led performance work blending dance, theatre and documentary to explore how a generation under pressure searches for meaning when the structures and systems around them crumble. Focused on young men, and centred around gyms, fight-training centres and gaming rooms, this interdisciplinary performance explores how belief, identity and community are formed amid political, social and ideological upheaval. Responding to a wider cultural shift towards a “medieval mentality” - with a pull toward authoritarian symbols, mythic hero-figures, strongman ideals, rigid masculinities, and gym-driven self-optimisation cultures.

The project will be developed in Spring 2026 - conducting research in training spaces, and will bring young men into a co-creation process alongside professional dancers and the creative team.
